We’ll be talking music, Matlock and Madchester with ex-Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley this Wednesday, ahead of his gig at Twenty Ten on 20 February. Tom tells us what it was like to be at the heart of one of the most influential music scenes of all time, listening to some of his solo work as well as reminding ourselves of the Inspirals’ unique sound. We’ve also got a first RFSS appearance from Matlock’s very own Rockin’ Roy Goodall, who’ll selecting some of the finest metal and hard rock around. Axes at the ready, folks!
Don’t forget to tune in to www.radiofreesmedleystreet.co.uk at 8pm tonight (Wednesday 4 February) when we’ll be broadcasting the first of a new monthly series of shows celebrating the work and music of people from the Matlock area. We’ll be chatting to the Posteritty guys (whose iconic Dr Who montage is below right) and playing songs from five artists who hail from these here parts or thereabouts including Frank, pictured below, Tom Allsop and Andy Carr.
If you miss the show at 8pm, you can hear it again at 9pm.
Don’t worry about Wolf Hall. We love it too, but you can always watch it on iPlayer later while ordering a Posteritty print of Henry VIII online…
Ladies and gentleman. Patawawa. Just say the name over a few times. Pata wah wah.
Why? Because you need to know about Patawawa.
They’re from Matlock, they’re making people across the UK sit up and take notice of their funky electronic sound, and they’re on your super soaraway Radio Free Smedley Street this week.
I trust we can count on your undivided attention this Wednesday night from 8pm.
Well, there we are. We’ve only gone and done it. The sounds of Matlock Record Club were heard as far afield as Brighton and Lancaster as the programme aired live online last Friday (15 August). And now we’re celebrating the success our first live broadcast by transmitting it again. On Wednesday 27 August, you can hear very nearly all of it again (we cut out one or two slight hiccups) at 8pm. That includes all the great songs, including The Raconteurs, Steve N Seagulls, Foy Vance, The Divine Comedy, Billy Bragg, dEUS, JD McPherson, Christy Moore, Elmer Bernstein, Jimmy Smith, 10CC, The Proclaimers, The Cure, Klaus Nomi (don’t ask!) and many more. Tune in by clicking on the Listen tab at 8pm on Wednesday.
Well despite very little technical knowledge we managed our first broadcast to the internet last weekend. We’ve a few more tests to do but hope to have news of our first proper broadcast SOON!
