We are very excited to announce that Matlock Town Council have agreed to fund our licenses for 2016 via their Community Grant Fund. We really appreciate this. Radio Free Smedley Street is not profit making and so far the four of us involved have self funded the licenses and equipment etc. We would love to be able to do more publicity and perhaps purchase some more up to date equipment as well as fund our licenses for 2017. If you would like to help out we are now accepting donations via pay pal.
We are excited to be able to play our interview with the extremely talented young singer songwriter Elliott Morris. Morris’s distinctive hammer style of guitar playing has already won him the 2013 Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Award and plenty of great reviews from the great and the good of the folk music scene. After his gig at the Boat in Cromford last week Alice caught up with him for a chat about musical influences and being a musician in the world of the internet and social networking. Listen to this along with some recordings from the gig on Ground Station Zero Wednesday from 8pm.

If you liked what you heard of Spiro, you can find out more about them in this article in the Guardian. or take a look at the Spiro Website.
Plus there are a number of videos on You Tube:
This week’s Ground Station Zero will be live again from our studio from 8pm on Wednesday (20th May). Some of us have had a live music filled weekend and we will be will be talking to Spiro Bristol based quartet (with familial links to Radio Free Smedley Street!!) whose music transcends folk to create something completely different. “We’ve got as much to do with minimalist classical and dance music as we have with folk. Even though we use folk tunes, they’re raw materials that the rest of the sound is built around.”
Plus the latest choices from Matlock Record Club, a bit of Belle and Sebastian (we went to see them too- but no interview sadly!) and of course your music selections- get in touch via Facebook and Twitter as soon as you can to give us your choices.
Listen from 8pm via the LISTEN tab in the top right hand corner. And for a sneak preview of Spiro see their video below.
